He completed residency training in head and neck surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, and advanced subspecialty fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tulane University and the Hedgewood Surgical Center. He maintains an academic affiliation as a Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He also lectures residents at Tufts University and Boston University Medical School.

Referenced as the doctor who literally wrote the book on rhinoplasty, Dr. Numa is the co-editor of the textbook Master Techniques in Rhinoplasty. He has also authored multiple articles and book chapters on cosmetic facial plastic surgery  and frequently lectures extensively on these subjects.

Dr. Numa is a recipient of the Collin Karmody Resident Achievement Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in head and neck surgery.
