He pursued his medical degree at Indiana University and earned his undergraduate degree at Davidson College in North Carolina, where he excelled both academically and athletically, graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving recognition as a Division I Academic All-American in soccer. During his time at Indiana University, Dr. Hankins was honored with the prestigious Edwards Scholarship, awarded to only four graduate students annually across the university system.
