Profile of Milton Waner, Dr
Milton Waner, MD, M.B., B.Ch.(Wits.), FCS(SA), is a pediatric facial plastic surgeon and Director of the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York. He is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the treatment of hemangiomas and vascular malformations.
Dr. Waner earned his medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he also completed his internship, surgical training, and residency in Otolaryngology. He pursued a research fellowship in head and neck cancer at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and later held faculty positions at the University of Sydney and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he became a professor and held the Benjamin and Milton Waner Endowed Chair in Pediatric Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Waner has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 37 book chapters, and three textbooks. His contributions include developing early interventions for hemangiomas, advancing surgical techniques, and co-authoring the seminal study identifying the GLUT1 marker for hemangiomas. He also holds numerous patents, including devices used worldwide.
