I came in for a visit earlier this year. I had a couple areas of small, itchy bumps. I expected to receive some sort of prescription treatment and go on my way (and return if necessary for a follow-up).

During the visit, I was given a prescription but I was also told they were going to do a biopsy of one of the bumps. What?! That was completely unexpected. It never crossed my mind that I would need a biopsy on some small bumps. I was astounded that was part of my initial visit.

I contested the need for a biopsy because I would be completely paying out of pocket for this procedure (insurance wouldn't pay anything). When I told her this, she responded and said "Well you should have told me that!" This was quite off putting because it told me their initial treatment plan was to do everything they could that was revenue generating.

I rejected the biopsy and opted to just use the topical prescription for a couple weeks and see if it cleared things up. Oh and I was also told that the biopsy results would take a week or more to come back. Thankfully I didn't allow them to do a biopsy, because everything cleared up after a week of using the topical. There was no need at all for a biopsy.

I hate how the healthcare providers are heavily driven by revenue generating tests and procedures. They're used to tacking on charges that will end up being unseen by the people who still have decent health insurance.

Despite my experience, the staff was very nice and they got me in for an appointment very quickly. I also did get a prescription that treated my issue properly.
