My husband was in a motorcycle accident in June, where he suffered fairly severe facial trauma. The ED doc offered to "stitch him up", but as an RN with a clinical background in surgical trauma, I knew the best possible long-term outcome for him was to request, and stand firm on, that a plastics doc repair his multiple lacerations. Especially as the wounds included the delicate skin around the eyes, and I worried a repair by a non-plastic surgeon would result in vision issues, potential infection or an asymmetrical outcome. Fortunately for us. Dr Schmidt was on call that night at Skyridge. He took the time to thoroughly clean, debride and suture ALL my husband's wounds, and after 3 months, you can barely tell he had any work done. I would absolutely recommend everyone hold out for a plastic surgeon to do any facial repairs resulting from a trauma, such as a car or motorcycle accident. Dr Schmidt is PHENOMENAL, and if he is this good with trauma wounds, I would only expect that his cosmetic work would be superior!
