Alexis Furze, Dr

I prefer writing glowing accounts of my experiences with those merchants and healthcare professionals I visit. Sometimes I can't, because what's the sense of creating a review , if not to accurately voice an opinion of your experience. That is where I'am with Dr. Furze.

I originally wrote my preferred 5 star review, but after some time and consideration, it was apparent to me, I was overlooking too many things.

Let me start off by saying, I was referred to Dr Furze, by another ENT doc that did not do balloon sinuplasty, but thought I was an ideal candidate for that procedure. I never met Dr. Furze before the procedure, but his PA did conduct a tele-visit and then scheduled an appointment to have Dr. Furze perform an in office sinuplasty. This seemed a little unconventional, but given the circumstances of it being a referral and all scans and examination notes were available, I had very little concern.

I met Dr Furtze the first time on my scheduled appointment. Easy to like him as he puts you at ease. Thanks.

However, don't be fooled in thinking this is a pain free procedure. I won't go into detail, but trying to deadened the pain of injections in the nose by jamming probes with topical lidocaine into your sinus passages makes no sense, when anesthetics as those used by oral surgeons  would  make this stress and a pain free 15-30 minute procedure. There are doctors who prefer this, but I assume insurance issues might have something to do with it.

Perhaps, others can tolerate sinus probing, but I doubt few will feel  well the following day, even though you are told you can go back to your normal routine. Yes, the pain is nominal, but count on cold like symptoms for at least 2-3 days that slowly dissipates to around a week.

Following the procedure and at home, I had some questions regarding pain medications. The office was closed and left a message. Within about a half hour Dr. Furtze called. I was thoroughly impressed with his concern and again, thanks.

I was originally given an appointment for a follow up tele-visit about 4 weeks out. I called the office to change it to a office visit. Initial reaction ,was "we only do tele- visits for follow ups". I said that is absurd and asked for a call back, by someone with authority. I received a call back shortly there after saying, I could have an office visit, with the PA.
I explained, I wanted to have Dr. Furtze check things out ,as he was the one who did the procedure and like any other surgery the surgeons evaluation has no equal. I was told he wouldn't be available for 4 months. I explained a lot could happen in 4 months and questioned that his schedule was so busy he didn't have time for a 10 min consult.

I should add part of the consult was to check the filer he injected under my eyes, as an additional procedure, which he did while we waited for the topical to take affect.

In summary , this is not a 5 star practice, but it wouldn't take much to become one.
