Apr 5, 2025Where do I Start….
Hey My name is Legend and I’m a transguy.
I had RFF Phalloplasty’s surgery on 01/17/2024 at the hospital at Westlake in Austin, Tx. I was told the surgery went well by Dr Deleon. On about the second night of my hospital stay I had contracted bacteria in my blood from a needle stick from one of the nurses. I had a fever of 103 degrees and it took at least 24 hours for them to get my fever under control.
I recovered from my surgery and went home at 5 weeks. I went back to work and had some issues with the stream of my pee, it had weakened(reduced). I was unable to hold my pee so I had to start wearing adult diapers. I started to have strong smelling urine and It got to the point where I was barely able to pee maybe 3 months post op. I was messaging Judah back and forth and he was trying to be helpful.
I went to the ER twice(2x) in regards to my painful urination and lack of ability to fully void my bladder. I went to a care now 2x as a recommendation by the crane center to get a urine culture. I had high white blood cell counts in both urine culture tests indicating an infection.
I had a cystoscopy dilation surgery to reduce my stricture on May 10, 2024. Dr. Santucci stated I had a medium sized stricture.
Maybe 3 weeks later my stricture came back and I scheduled another surgery for October 7, 2024 with the crane center called Optilume that required a down payment of $2600.
This is the show stopper. I have a patient balance with the crane center and that I have been unable to pay on because of lack of money. I’m 2 months behind. My surgery for the optilume was canceled because the crane center has a policy that my patient balance account has to be in good standing for them to proceed with scheduling surgeries.
Now I’ve been to the ER two times, I’ve been to carenow two times, I’ve driven to Austin for the 2nd surgery to temporarily fix the stricture. And now I have to have a 3rd surgery that requires $2600.
It’s incredibly expensive to have gender affirmation surgeries. Crane center and Westlake Hospital asked my Blue Cross Blue shield insurance company for over $200,000 after my RFF Phalloplasty procedure. And I still owed a balance of over $6000 after my insurance paid out.
The percentage of complications after these surgeries are much higher than the paperwork shows.
Despite you developing a complication that WILL affect your quality of life and could cause further complications with other organs if not working properly. The crane center is very clear. They want their money.
