Sam Lam, Dr

3.0

I received a 3,000-graft hair transplant in August 2021. I’ve waited over two years for my results to ensure I give an accurate and fair assessment of my experience.

The surgical procedure was exceptional. From the moment I arrived, the staff made sure I was comfortable and at ease. True to their word, I didn't feel a thing during the surgery. The coordination and nursing staff were incredibly attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. I couldn't have asked for a better experience in that regard.

While I received some growth, I am not 100% satisfied with the results. When I raised my concerns with the surgeon, I was given unsatisfactory solutions, which was disappointing considering the amount of money spent on the hair transplant.

I was advised to try topical hair growth treatments, which was disheartening because I could have tried that option before opting for surgery, and I wanted a more permanent solution. The facility doesn't offer a satisfaction guarantee to its clients. The only option I was given was a "discounted" rate and hope for a better outcome the second time around. I was aware of the possibility of a second transplant to attain a denser hair coverage. However, I had hoped that the initial 3000 grafts would suffice and that I wouldn't need additional surgery.

Dr. Lam has a confident and convincing demeanor. He moves very quickly, making interacting with him tough - it was sometimes frustrating. During my consultation, he said, "I go big or go home," and mentioned that I would be absolutely satisfied with the number of grafts I was getting; which, in comparison to other consultations I had, was double the amount. While that could have been a red flag, the number matched what one other very experienced surgeon said. I figured since they were both experienced with Afro hair, it was the right thing. One thing that you should consider is that some people are better salesmen than they are surgeons.
With 3000 grafts, I still have bald patches in my hairline. The technician said they couldn't pack too much hair in one spot, or it wouldn't grow. I feel that should have been explained during the consultation. Perhaps fewer grafts would have been better, or my hair may have required different post-op instructions.

While my results were not everything I wanted, the staff fulfilled their responsibilities. I am grateful for the effort put into helping me achieve some new hair growth. Dr. Lam did an excellent job on my incision; the scar is barely detectable. However, I believe that there is room for improvement; especially in addressing the concerns of dissatisfied customers and taking appropriate actions to resolve them.
