I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kevin for over three years, always paying out of pocket since I don’t have insurance. I respected him and trusted him with my care. Recently, I needed a procedure that would cost over $1,000, which I couldn’t afford. I found another clinic that offered financial support, and after six months of evaluations, they confirmed I do need the procedure. Because Dr. Kevin knows my full medical history, I made an appointment to simply consult with him,just to ask whether it would be safe to wait a little longer before going through with the procedure. I had already done an ultrasound last week, so I wasn’t asking for a new exam, just a conversation.
Unfortunately, I was told that if I wanted to speak with the doctor at all, I would have to pay a full $300 consultation fee. I explained to the front desk that I wasn’t asking for a check-up, just advice from a doctor I’ve trusted for years. Still, they refused. I was shocked and very disappointed.
After years of loyalty, I expected more understanding and compassion. I understand time is valuable, but I also believe that care and trust between a doctor and patient should mean something.
