Mar 12, 2026This is unfortunate that I am having to leave this review. I went to Dr. Carl to have a cyst removed on my hand. I had had three prior visits to having surgery. The day of surgery at the hospital, they hit me with nearly a $4000 bill. That I was never told about prior to the surgery. A week after surgery the swelling in my hand, had not gone down due to the nearly inch and a half incision he made on my hand had got sewn up with only three stitches to hold the incision together. I got sent home with no dressing changes, Wraps, or gauze. I was told at physical therapy to go purchase my own dressing changes as needed. Myself and the physical therapy office tried to reach out to Dr. Carl‘s office multiple times and in multiple different means of communication only to not get a call back. The doctors assistant looked at my hand and told me that I have a hematoma and would need another surgery. When I finally had an appointment with Dr. Carl, he added three more stitches in his office to my incision. This was nearly 2 weeks after the surgery and the incision was still bleeding and not healing correctly. On the way out of his doctors office, adding three more stitches to my incision his office staff begins to tell me that I owe them the remaining amount that my deductible did not cover, which was an additional 350 plus dollars that I was not prior aware of. The office staff told me that I owed this money due to my insurance, not covering the full amount. They could’ve let me know prior to the surgery what my deductible was and was not covered. It seems to me that with a surgery that required more stitches than what I got at the time of the surgery that they would be willing to eat this $350 bill. But no, they have felt that they were owed this money due to the exceptional service, I got with this hand surgery. they informed me that Dr. Carl does not get paid from the hospital bills and that the 3000+ dollars my insurance did pay them didn’t go to Dr. Carl. This hand surgery is on the upwards of $10,000 at this point that me and my insurance have paid. I asked to speak to Dr. Carl directly on my way out of the office, his office staff told me that Dr. Carl does not handle any of the billing and would not work with me. Please be aware prior to hiring any surgeon what they charge as they will hit your insurance and you for the full amount regardless. What happen to the doctors worrying about helping instead of everybody being a dollar sign. Had I known this surgery would put me back this far out-of-pocket I would’ve waited till I was in a better position to afford that kind of cost.
