I came in to see Dr. Nizam about two months ago complaining of a weird taste in my mouth and gum sensitivity near a tooth that recently had decay work done by my local dentist. After having a CT scan, Dr. Nizam identified two spots: a tiny pencil-tip sized spot under the gum where I felt the pain and a larger spot around the root of that same tooth. Tackling the most urgent problem first, he suggested a procedure to clean the smaller area (gum) and send off for a biopsy, just to be safe. Thank goodness he did! The spot came back as Chronic Osteomyelitis - a bone infection in my jaw. Once he removed it, the pain I was experiencing immediately disappeared. What a relief! Three weeks later, I went back in for my stitch removal, but mentioned I was still getting that weird taste when bitting down on that tooth. Dr. Nizam, though the didn’t want to pull that molar, ultimately recommended it, as he suspected more infection under that tooth. He was absolutely right! I am only on day 2 after my second surgery and the weird taste is completely GONE! Dr. Nizam successfully removed all the infection in my jaw, extracted the tooth and placed a bone graft so I could have an implant in a few months. I have had hardly any pain and very minimal swelling with both surgeries he has done. Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen has been all I needed. Words cannot express how grateful I am for Dr. Nizam and his staff. They all have been so kind, and if it wasn’t for him, I would still be dealing with that awful infection in my jaw bone. I would definitely recommend Alabama Surgical Arts to anyone needing any kind of oral maxillofacial surgery.
