Profile of Francisco Canales, Dr

Dr. Francisco (Paco) Canales is an honors graduate of Harvard College, where he served as co-captain of the Swimming Team. During his time at Harvard he represented Puerto Rico in the Montreal Olympics.

Dr. Canales attended both Yale Medical School and Stanford Medical School, receiving his medical degree from Stanford in 1982. Dr. Canales then completed his plastic surgery training at Stanford University Hospital.

He is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and previously served on the clinical faculty of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Canales has lectured extensively in the field of plastic surgery, both nationally and internationally. He has written numerous articles and book chapters on aesthetic surgery.

Born in Mexico and reared in Puerto Rico, Dr. Canales enjoys the bicultural offerings of Sonoma County. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Dr. Heather Furnas, and with his adult children, Diego and Siena. He remains active in Masters Swimming and, in a relay with Sonoma County teammates, set a world record for his age group in 2009.
