What is a Facelift?

As we age, skin and tissues in the face and neck area lose elasticity, and this leads to sagging and wrinkles. A facelift works to reduce the signs of aging through a surgical procedure to lift and tighten tissues in the face. It may involve removing excess skin, smoothing folds or wrinkles, and tightening facial tissues.

A facelift focuses on the bottom two-thirds of the face and may be combined with a platysmaplasty (neck lift) or a brow and eye lift. While there are many reasons for getting a facelift, the most common is to correct the signs of aging.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of a Facelift

The popularity of facelift surgery increases every year as people become more comfortable with the idea of surgical anti-aging interventions. However, in some cases, it might not be the ideal choice. Here are the pros and cons of the surgery.

  • Pain after the surgery is much lower than patients anticipate
  • The procedure removes excess skin and fat to reduce sagging in the face and neck area
  • Facelifts are outpatient procedures, and, in most cases, the patient goes home after the surgery
  • Risk of scarring has been reduced significantly - incisions are hidden in front of, or behind the ears and in the hairline, and the scars are barely visible once fully healed

  • Some risks, such as scarring, numbness, blood loss, and infection
  • Downtime is approximately two weeks, although it may be less
  • A facelift may cost more than $12,000
  • Results are not permanent, although the results last longer than many other cosmetic procedures

If you are looking to have any facial plastic surgery, you must go see Dr. Mark Karolak!! There are no words that can adequately describe his talent. If I could rate him 1000 stars, I would. I had a lower face lift, upper blepharoplasty, and fat transfer. While good cosmetic results are important, other factors are equally important. Let’s start with his exceptional work. I have received so many compliments and requests for his contact information. My results greatly exceeded my expectations. As to Dr. Karolak as a person, he is kind, caring, sensitive, knowledgeable, confident and patient. He always has a smile on his face and truly is a beautiful person inside and out. Dr. Karolak went above and beyond in every phase of the procedure. He prepared me for every stage of the procedure and recovery so that there were no surprises. He personally explained everything I needed to know at the pre op appointment. He was patient and answered every question. He gives his patients his cell phone number after the surgery to alleviate any anxiety and know that he is there to answer any questions or concerns. I reached out to him on a Sunday morning via text and I don’t think 3 seconds passed before he called me back. He made me feel comfortable from the beginning of the process up until now. Dr. Karolak’s office staff (especially his assistant Paola) is exceptional. The office is impeccably clean and has a relaxing atmosphere. I can’t even think of any negative to this experience and his work. I highly recommend him and would never go anywhere else.
