Profile

Hello and welcome.  I am Dr. Barton Thomas a board certified plastic surgeon in Roanoke, VA.

As a native of York, Pennsylvania, my undergraduate education began at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.  I earned my medical degree at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.  I then completed my General Surgery residency at Berkshire Medical Center in Massachusetts and became board certified in 1993.  As my attention became focused on restoring a patient’s appearance, I pursued a Plastic Surgery fellowship at the University of Cincinnati where part of my training included a cosmetic fellowship in Miami, Florida.  I became board certified in Plastic Surgery in 1996.

My passion as a plastic surgeon has been on breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery.  I believe that restoring a patient to a youthful, natural, and well proportioned appearance is worthy of a career.  I have built my reputation on combining the highest quality of care with patient safety and a thoughtful personalized approach.  After a thorough exam, patient education is critical.  Every patient deserves to understand their options and have all of their questions reviewed.  I regularly provide seminars on skin care, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeries to further patient education.

I've had two procedures done by Dr. Thomas and he's exceeded my expectations! I'm a NYC girl and have seen work friends have had done by some of the top plastic surgeons in NY and SanFrancisco.... I believe Dr. Thomas is one of the best. He's done an amazing job for me, made me feel comfortable and explained everything clearly. We are very fortunate he has chosen SW Virginia as his home. If he relocated and I needed another procedure, I would travel to see him. Simply the best!

Dr Thomas was the best! It’s been 16 years since I had a breast reduction. He did a wonderful job. Very little scar tissue. The surgery itself went flawless. He explained everything very clearly, professionally, and down to earth. He had excellent in office manners, pre and post bedside manners, and was very pleasant at my follow up appointment. I highly recommend him for breast reduction for anyone in need of it. After my chest healed up I looked completely normal and was very satisfied with the results.

He is fantastic! My wife has been working with him over the last year after being diagnosed with cancer and he and all of his staff have been so kind and caring. He really pays attention to detail and wants to make sure the re construction process goes as smooth as possible. We are so happy to be working with him!

He was very nice, HOWEVER, my experience wasn’t a good one. I had a breast augmentation in January this year , the implant on my left side did not fall causing me to need a revision to lower the inframammary fold. I had the revision in April and once healed (about a month) felt the crease was too low. I brought my concerns to the doctor and showed him how when i lifted my arms my left implant basically fell completely down An did not have a normal breast shape. His response was that it was not as round as the other but that he didn’t think the risks of a third surgery were worth the “subtle” differences. I left the office and went to another doctor for a second opinion, this doctor told me the implant was bottomed out and would also require stitching to the side because it was now too far over as well. I went back to Dr. Thomas again with concerns of the implant because it is painful at times and another plastic surgeon saw what I saw. Again I was told things looked fine an the crease didn’t need to be raised. I left and had a third opinion, and was told by a third plastic surgeon the implant was completely bottomed out and would need to be repaired. I can’t wear a bathing suit top because of how low this left crease is and the implant ripple is completely visible. I was not small chested before and I did not get a large implant. This has been an extremely costly price to pay as the revision I am facing will cost near what the original surgery did. I know things can happen and he seems to have great reviews, I just wanted to share my personal experience.
