Dr. Alter is one of a select few with board certification by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Board of Urology. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at UCLA School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree.

Dr. Alter has also appeared in a number of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Allure, Self, Glamour, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Health. He has been featured on numerous TV shows, including Dr. 90210, The Doctors, Botched, Strange Sex, The Larry King Show, and more.

Dr. Alter is the preeminent authority on labia surgery, widely respected by his peers for his pioneering techniques in reconstructive labiaplasty and cosmetic vaginal surgery. He is perhaps best known for inventing the central wedge labiaplasty (also known as Alter V labiaplasty) in the 90s, which preserves the normal appearance and anatomy of the labia and labial edge, while reducing post-operative pain and occurrence of dyspareunia.

In 2011, Dr. Alter authored the only medical paper on reconstructing botched labiaplasties which appeared in the prestigious surgical journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This extensive report detailed many of the cosmetic vaginal surgical procedures that Dr. Alter has perfected over the years and the techniques he strongly advocates to be used for successful labia reconstruction repair.

Being both a board-certified plastic surgeon and urologist, Dr. Alter blends his expertise in plastic surgical procedures and anatomy with his urological training to advance cosmetic vaginal surgery techniques that help minimize if not reverse the effects of a botched labiaplasty. Gynecologists and urologists are not taught these surgical and anatomic skills and therefore do not offer the same level of precision and expertise that Dr. Alter does.
