Dr. Urquia’s path into plastic surgery has been guided by a commitment to technical excellence, empathy, and empowering patients through every step of their journey. A Virginia native with strong ties to Maine, she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Wake Forest University. Her early career in medical research at Emory University, where she contributed to the development of novel therapies for ALS, sparked a deeper calling—one that ultimately led her to pursue a career in surgery.
She completed her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine, where she was deeply involved in global health initiatives. One of her most formative experiences was leading a surgical team in Pignon, Haiti, where she helped provide essential reconstructive procedures to underserved patients. This experience cemented her philosophy that surgical care should be not only technically excellent, but also compassionate and accessible. Dr. Urquia completed a six-year plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas—one of the top-ranked programs in the country. During her training, she focused her research on improving breast reconstruction outcomes and expanding resources for patients facing breast cancer. In recognition of her commitment to patient education, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She has extensive experience in both deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap and direct-to-implant breast reconstructions, having performed hundreds of these procedures during her training. Her clinical expertise also includes primary and revisionary cosmetic breast surgery, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, and body contouring after weight loss.
When she’s not in the operating room, Dr. Urquia can be found scuba diving in tropical waters, exploring new cultures and cuisines, or strength training at the gym. A full-time surgeon with a soft spot for her feline companions and a love for the high-speed strategy of Formula 1, she also continues to sharpen her Spanish fluency to better serve her diverse patient community.
