Last year I mistakenly used an expired serum which caused the worst skin reaction of my life. For months I thought my skin would get better until one day it got so bad i wanted to surgically peel off my face. Neither tears could help with the pain so the very next day I came here and met with Dr. Matthew LaCour. Since then my skin has been great! And a year later I still love coming here.

Westlake Derm in downtown Austin with Dr LaCour and his team of MAs is the only place I trust with my derm needs both medical and cosmetic. Dr. LaCour stands out to me for his exceptional attention to detail; he takes the time to listen and understand the full context of my concerns, both medical and cosmetic. His meticulous and careful approach ensures the best possible care and natural-looking results. His whole team of MA has been exceptional particularly MA Donna is warm, professional, and supportive throughout the process as well. The downtown location is convenient, and the entire clinic makes you feel valued and confident. Top-notch experience that I recommend to everyone in my downtown network!

I worked with HELYN ALVAREZ last year in the summer. She was not helpful for me at all. She saw my skin and immediately suggested birth control or accutane two drugs I specifically said I am not interested in taking! Instead of asking medical history, skin history, or frankly any questions I was met with “this is your only option” here’s some doxycycline goodbye. Which by the way the doxycycline she gave me made me vomit everyday because the dose was way too high for my BMI something I was told when I went to an urgent care. I decided to not take these medications and have a 15 minute conversation with AI and was met with more empathy and more questions than the doctor! I want to reiterate how much I would prefer to pay my copay and see a doctor and have a conversation with a human however I was looked at as a customer not a patient and given little to no care! My skin is completely clear now and no accutane was needed because turns out I have eczema and accutane would have made my skin way WORSE! So if you require more than 2 minutes from a doctor might want to try a different doctor! If you’re looking for quick generic solutions that EVERYONE suggests this is the place for you.

I went to Dr. Lacour for a routine mole check in August. During the visit, he said a mole was likely severe and pressured me into having it removed immediately, warning that I would probably need surgically remove the area later. After the procedure, I was given little guidance on aftercare and felt dismissed when I tried to ask questions. He pretty much left the room immediately. Five months later, the area still hasn’t healed. At follow-up, the only solution offered was surgery, with no real discussion of alternatives. A second opinion advised the opposite approach of what Dr. Lacour had recommended. Based on my experience, I would not recommend seeing Dr. Lacour if it can be avoided.
