Education & Fellowship Training
Dr. Beckenstein grew up in New York and earned his bachelor’s degree from Union College in Schenectady before completing his medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1987, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed residencies in both general surgery and plastic surgery, followed by a plastic surgery research fellowship at Case Western Reserve University.
His focused interest in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery led to two advanced fellowships. At the Breast Reconstruction Foundation in Atlanta, he trained under Dr. Carl Hartrampf, a pioneer of TRAM flap breast reconstruction. He later trained at Georgetown University under Dr. Scott L. Spear, a recognized authority in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery who contributed to the development of modern implants used in breast augmentation and reconstruction.
Dr. Beckenstein’s final fellowship brought him to Birmingham, where he expanded his expertise in ultrasonic-assisted liposuction and facial plastic surgery.
