Profile

Dr. Williams is a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery. As an Oculoplastic Surgeon, she specializes in the evaluation and treatment of problems of the eyelid, eye socket, and tear duct that are a result of aging, trauma, and tumors. In her busy surgical practice, she exclusively performs reconstructive and aesthetic surgery on the eyelids and surrounding tissue. Dr. Williams is a native of Chicago and grew up in Hyde Park. She completed her undergraduate education at Spelman College and then returned to the Chicago area, where she received her medical degree from Chicago Medical School.

Dr. Williams completed her residency in ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Pursuing an affinity for plastic and reconstructive surgery she completed a fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery.

Currently in private practice at Rush University Medical Center, Dr. Williams works very closely with other physicians to provide optimal care for patients. Medical conditions in and around the eye often affect nearby structures. As a result, the best treatment for these conditions requires a team-based approach. In these cases, Dr. Williams collaborates with other physicians who specialize in otolaryngology (ENT), craniofacial plastic surgery, neurosurgery, and dermatology to optimize care.

We had a wonderful experience with Dr Williams who removed a cyst near our 3 year old’s eye. Extremely thorough and caring physician who I would highly recommend to anyone!

I am struggling writing this review, as Dr. Williams was very kind at my initial visit and seemed to really care about the issues I was having. She spent SO much time with me and I truly felt she was going to be able to help me. Unfortunately, my criticism is more about how her office functions. Her receptionist works "remote" and unfortunately I think this causes major communication delays and issues. I should have known when it took at least 5 phone calls for the doctor that referred me to schedule an appointment. (and my doctor felt it was necessary for me to be seen immediately that week). That doctor's office was getting frustrated having to keep calling. After my initial appointment, I was told to call to schedule a tele-health appointment for a follow-up. It took at least 3 phone calls and 1 message via her website to get that scheduled. In addition, Dr. Williams told me she would "call me" after she discussed with my dermatologist a possible medication as a solution. I received 2 phone calls asking who the dermatologist was, when I know this information was listed in my paperwork and I told Dr. Williams. (Unfortunately I missed some of the return phone calls, but would immediately call back or be told the tech/nurse would call me and never got a call back to connect with the tech/nurse.) My dermatologist also called Dr. Williams' office and never heard back. The day before my tele-health appointment, the receptionist called to confirm, but thought I was coming in for the appointment. When I said it was tele-health, I asked her for more information: would I get a Zoom link or was it via FaceTime? She told me she would ask Dr. Williams and get back to me. I never heard back. My tele-health appointment was scheduled for 4:00. At 4:17, I finally got a phone call asking me to reschedule my appointment for 6:00. I said I couldn't make that time as I was leaving. The receptionist said, "Okay, that's all the information I need at this time." I stopped her before she hung up and said so is my 4:00 appointment cancelled??? She proceeded to put me on hold for 15 minutes so I hung up. She called back and asked me to reschedule for 7:00. I said I couldn't make that time either. She explained that Dr. Williams was running behind with a procedure.I could totally be understanding with that, if I hadn't had all these other communication issues. I was rescheduled for 2 days later at 4:30 for a tele-health appointment which I laughingly (and frustratingly) said, "Well, I don't think it matters, as she isn't going to show up." I NEVER received a call for that tele-health appointment. It really makes me sad to write a negative review, as I know numerous doctors raved about Dr. Williams being such a great doctor. I truly believe she is, but unfortunately, I have NEVER had such a difficult time getting communication with a doctor's office. It frustrates me as I waited 3 weeks to be put on a medication by her. I could have been taking this medication to see if it would help me. I have been in contact with another one of my doctors who will now be prescribing the medication for me. I truly hope Dr Williams sees this review, as maybe she isn't aware of the communication issues her office is experiencing. I am obviously frustrated and sad that my time was wasted for 3 weeks holding out hope that this doctor's office would follow through. I know Dr. Williams mentioned they were "short staffed" but there still is no excuse for the lack of direct answers, communication and follow-through I received. I do not think the "remote" receptionist situation works. I hope this review helps change how things function at Dr. Williams' office for other patients.

Excellent service! No hassle and Dr. Williams has several convenient locations. My irritated eyelid required surgery of which Dr. Williams promptly performed. I'm grateful for her service and her professionalism (especially since now I'm able to wear contacts again!). Thanks again, Dr. Willams!

Had a wonderful experience with Dr. Williams. I was very nervous for my procedure and she made it go so smoothly and set me at ease. I barely felt her numbing and did not have any pain throughout the procedure. She was thoughtful about my care plan and she was responsive to messages as well. I really appreciate the care she provided.

From the first visit I found Dr. Williams professional with a strong knowledgeable demeanor. Her bedside skills are excellent. She is a diagnostician who communicates in accessible language. Her surgical skills are equally well honed. Surgeries are fraught with anxiety but Dr. Williams is interactive, empowering and comforting. Her post op care is amazing.
