Eugene J. Cherny, M.D., F.A.C.S., is the director of Heartland Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He studied medicine at Rush Medical College in his hometown of Chicago. Dr. Cherny has been practicing in Des Moines since 1989 and is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Cherny has been recognized for excellence in Plastic Surgery many times and by many organizations. He has been awarded three times as one of “Americas Top Surgeons”, by the Consumers Research Council of America. As one of the few members in Iowa of the prestigious American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, he has been awarded three times the certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery.

Dr. Cherny is a full adjunct professor of surgery at Des Moines University. The American College of Surgeons has honored Dr. Cherny with a full fellowship.

Dr. Cherny has served his country in the United States Army as an attending surgeon at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. and in Operation Desert Storm. He has received the Army Achievement medal and retired as a Major for the United States Army Medical Corps.

Dr. Cherny has served in medical mission trips to Honduras and El Salvador; performing complex pediatric reconstruction in impoverished medically underserved areas. In 2006 The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has awarded Dr. Cherny, their award for community service.

Reception staff is rude so did not schedule another appointment. Reception staff scheduled my appointment wrong for my procedure at last visit so I was rushed. Look into the face of your business and see how they treat your customers.

I nearly died from a suture infection because of an allergy to the stitches and Dr. C's reluctance to address it. I went back for several post-surgicalpostvisuts before he ackniacknowlthere was something wrong After months of physical healing and depression he went in to fix the horrific scarring and lopsided breast and ended up using THE SAME SUTURE. This set me into another round of scarring and Infection. Clearly Dr. C didn't listen to me as I kept telling him something was seriously wrong. My family wanted me to sue, but I felt so blessed that after several months of a dire physical state and depression I finally recovered (physically) that I just wanted to stay as far from that man as possible. Two stars because the service itself was fine but I will not be returning. Horrible communication & treated like just another customer. A mixup on their end wasted a large chunk of money and they couldn't be bothered to correct it. The esthetician told me to wait "at least a month" to come back in and use the rest of my product (even though I stated multiple times that I was fine doing it all in that appointment) & insisted she would have it waiting for me. I waited and made an appointment a little over a month later. She let me make the appointment, came to the waiting room that afternoon and told me that whoops, she had thrown it out. They offered nothing in return. Wasted my time and money and then had the nerve to tell me to just "watch for another special". I don't need a special- I need you to honor what I paid for originally or CALL me to ask me to come in before throwing out what I paid for. At the very least, call me and tell me not to come in. Very unimpressed with the lack of communication and professionalism.
