Thomas J. RishavyDr

Thomas J. Rishavy, MD joined Northland Plastic Surgery in August 2004 and became a partner in the practice in January of 2008. A native of southern Minnesota, Dr. Rishavy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biomedical Sciences at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended Medical School at Creighton University of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his residency in general surgery at Detroit Medical Center and his fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Rishavy is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Burn Association. He enjoys teaching and giving presentations to family practice residency students as well as other related groups. Currently, he participates in Duluth’s monthly Facial-Dental Clinic, a part of the Minnesota Children with Special Health Needs program. He is a lecturer at UMD-Medical School and St. Scholastica.

Outside of work, he and his son enjoy the outdoors, cooking, traveling and skiing.

In January 2016, Dr. Rishavy traveled to the Philippines for 10 days, providing medical care to those in need. Along with other health care professionals through Global Medical Foundation, he and his team provided care to 50 individuals, performing cleft lip and palate repairs along with head and neck tumor resections.

Dr. Rishavy traveled to Belize for a surgical mission in December 2013 with Peacework International.

Dr. Rishavy traveled to Yanan, China in October 2011, volunteering with Operation Smile which is a worldwide organization helping children with cleft lips and cleft palates receive free surgeries and medical treatments that would otherwise not be affordable for their families. Operation Smile works with medical professionals, students and community volunteers.
