Extremely unprofessional and don’t care about their patients. The office needs serious improvement. For my consultation, they failed to inform me that I was prescribed eye drops that I needed to start using a week before my procedure. I only found out when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my other meds from another Dr. I called a week prior to my surgery to make sure my insurance covers this procedure, and they wouldn’t give me a direct answer, kind of saying they wouldn’t process till day before or day of. Didn’t make any sense. How do you schedule a patient for a procedure not knowing if they’d be charged thousands of dollars? A month after my surgery, they call to tell me that my insurance including all other commercial insurances are no longer accepted. I needed a follow up 3 months post op and most drs do not perform this surgery. I asked them 3 times if they know another Dr they can refer me to and the answer was always no. I pleaded with them to see me for free as all they needed to do was take out a tube in my eye. They refused saying this is a business and we need to be paid to stay open. What??? Just say you don’t care about your patients and only the money. How does a Dr put a tube in my eye and basically tell me to figure it out ?? No one in their right mind is paying $350 for a 10 minute visit. The entire insurance situation seems extremely sketchy. Last time I called them front desk admitted to me that they no longer take insurances because patients were getting billed thousands of dollars from insurance refusing to pay. Sounds like they purposely weren’t transparent on what insurance would cover. UPDATE: Responding to their response, 1) the eye drop was prescribed to me right after my consultation, because I was suppose to start using the drops a week before. I even looked through the pre op instructions and the drops were not mentioned. 2) I was told I can get reimbursement for my follow up, which was only after calling MULTIPLE times, but when I called my insurance to verify they said it’s not possible. 3) I was not “offered” an earlier follow up appointment. For my case that’s not an option. They tried telling me to come in a month and a half too early to take the tube out my eye, and the doctor said that removing the tube too early would cause the surgery to be ineffective. Good try though. 4) your recommendation to mount sinai was after calling countless times for an answer from the doctor. And was told “our dr doesn’t give referrals to other drs”. My frustration has nothing to do with my insurance and everything to do with your office. I know my frustrations are fairly placed. Thanks.

As soon as my husband and I walked out of Dr. Carniciu's office after my consultation, we knew she was the Dr. I wanted to do my upper and lower blepheroplasty. (I had seen 2 other oculoplastic surgeons for consults). It was important for me to have a great surgeon, and equally as important to really like them as a person. Dr. Carniciu and her staff were warm, patient, detailed and positive from the start. To me this is essential, especially when having aesthetic surgery. Since my surgery (my initial results are amazing and keep getting better) I have always been able to contact Dr. Carniciu and get any questions or concerns answered very quickly. If you are getting blepheroplasty, there is no question that Dr. Carniciu is the doctor you want!
