Dr. Mike Yates, Dr. Bill Alison and the entire staff wish to honor and uphold the integrity, care, compassion and skill exemplified by our founding physician Deason Dunagan, MD.

Dr. Dunagan was loved by both patients and staff. During his 39 year medical career, he cared for literally thousands of patients. It was not uncommon for patients to approach him on the streets of Huntsville to thank him for changing their lives for the better.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Dunagan; daughters, Rachel Wiles, and Sarah Labosier (Andrew); stepsons, Chris Thrash (Kathy), and Brandon Thrash; and grandchildren, Eleanor, Emerson and Asa Wiles, Elizabeth and Ben Labosier and Noah Thrash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Deason and Mai Dunagan.

Other Accomplishments

Dr. Dunagan was an accomplished airplane pilot. He held an Airline Transport Pilot certificate, which is the highest FAA certificate that can be earned. He loved his time in the air almost more than his time on land. His daughter mused that he would have flown his plane to the grocery store if there had been a place to land in the parking lot! In his free time he was either flying or preparing to fly!

Medical Background

He received his Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Tennessee; Master's degree in Biology from the University of Memphis; and his MD degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. His surgery residency was at Methodist Hospital, Memphis, and plastic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. Dr. Dunagan was a past president of the Alabama Society of Plastic Surgeons, on the Board of Directors of the Madison County Medical Society and active in the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Because of the importance he placed on safety and professionalism, Dr. Dunagan was one of the first plastic surgeons in the southeast to voluntarily undergo the process of accreditation for his office based surgical suite.
