Profile

Board-certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Chariker is also a candidate for board certification by the American Society of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Chariker believes strongly that his extensive experience in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery enables him to provide better care in both disciplines. His cosmetic patients benefit from his deep understanding of the body’s underlying structures—which helps avoid short-sighted approaches that can lead to incorrect or inadequate solutions—and his extensive experience in cosmetic surgery leads to more aesthetically pleasing results for his reconstructive patients.

He also brings extensive experience in general oncologic and general pediatric surgery to his plastic surgery practice, and his training in microsurgery enhances his expertise in reconstructive surgery for both adult and pediatric patients.

Fellowship trained in hand surgery at the Kleinert Hand Institute, Dr. Chariker received his plastic surgery training at the University of Louisville. He was the director for hand surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia before moving to Louisville as the Director of Craniofacial Surgery.

For five years he has also been the surgical director for Operation Hope, a project dedicated to performing corrective surgery for pediatric and adult patients with craniofacial anomalies, predominantly in the Philippines.

Doctor Chariker is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. After completing his General Surgery training at the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg, He began his active duty military career in the US Navy starting with the Gulf War. While in the Navy he returned to training and was sent to the University of Louisville Plastic Surgery program, known for its rigorous anatomic and microsurgery program. He moved on to complete a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Kleinert Institute and a pediatric and craniofacial fellowship in Taiwan’s Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He completed a distinguished 20 year career as a commander and returned to civilian life in Louisville, Kentucky where he joined Drs Gerald Verdi and Gerald O’Daniel. He is now the Director of Pediatric Plastic Surgery where he collaborates with the departments of neurosurgery, orthopedics, spine, pediatric surgery and cardiothoracic surgery to solve and resolve many complicated clinical challenges with children. He and his associate Dr Scott Rapp are co-directors of the Craniofacial surgery team and the Cleft Lip and Palate team sponsored by the State of Kentucky’s Commision for Children with Special Healthcare Needs.

The three star rating is for how great of care and a job the doctor did on my procedure. The reason it is not a better rating is due to the office and the way it runs. Each visit, 3 total, took an average of 1 hour to get back to a room (Ex: appointment is for 11:15 and did not get called back to 12:15). Also it then took an average of another hour to be done with the appointment. An average of around 2 hours for each appointment. This is unacceptable, people have jobs, other appointments that need to get taken care of. The office needs to take this into consideration and make some changes.

Dr. Chariker is amazing! My procedure was probably very small to him compared to what he does on a daily basis but to me it was a huge deal. He did a revision that a previous plastic surgeon initially messed up on and I am so please with the results. He was very open and honest throughout the entire process which is something anyone can appreciate who has had an opposite experience with another specialist. Very professional and good at what he does!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

He is an amazing doctor and his nurse Elaine is fabulous. I wouldn't hesitate to visit them for a second. You can sense his skill and caring personality instantly.

I was referred to him by my primary care doctor and was told that his office would call me to make an appointment, weeks went by and nobody called me. I then called the office and the lady I spoke with told me at first that they didn’t make appointments that my primary doctor had to call, after I explained that I had a referral she then made an appointment for me for today (10-12). I was very excited and looking forward to this appointment. I received a call from his office yesterday, only one day before my appointment and was told that they were canceling my appointment because the girl I spoke with made a mistake in how she made my appointment, they felt this was a cosmetic procedure and wouldn’t be covered by my insurance (without even letting the doctor see me first to determine this). She then told me that I had to wait until November to be seen. I was highly upset. I already waited a month to see him. This office is disorganized and very unprofessional. Only considered going here after my doctor insisted. I am going elsewhere.

Trust me when I say he does not deserve anyone's business.
