Profile

Dr. John E. Sherman is one of the most experienced plastic surgeons in New York. Over the past 35 years, he has performed thousands of operations, emphasizing cosmetic surgery, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring. He has been consistently recognized by Castle Connolly Top Doctors, New York Magazine Best Doctors, The New York Times Super Doctors and other publications as being among the top plastic surgeons nationally. He has taught residents cosmetic surgery and maxillofacial trauma at The New York Presbyterian Hospital -where he is currently Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Weill Cornell University Medical College Over the past years the resident staff has recognized Dr. Sherman multiple times awarding him the excellence in teaching award at graduation. A consultant for the New York City Police Department for over 25 years, he is President of the Society of Police Surgeons representing 350 surgeons. He has also been awarded Member of Honor Legion NYPD for his actions at the WTC on 9/11. He is also Surgeon to the DEA, New York Field Division.

Dr. Sherman is former Chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Chief of the teaching program at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City, and is former President of the New York State Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, representing 11,000 surgeons from multiple specialties throughout the state. Because of his established reputation, a large percentage of his patients are international, flying in for consultation and surgery. The office is able to make arrangements for accommodation, surgery and postoperative care. Dr. Sherman’s procedures are performed in his fully accredited operating facility, or at one of New York’s finest Hospitals.

Dr. Sherman changed my life. I was born with a defect in my chest wall... leaving me as a young woman extremely insecure. I had 2 past breast augmentations fail, leaving me even more hopeless and insecure. I flew to New York from Florida to meet DR. Sherman and his staff. They went above and beyond... Dr. Sherman visited my hotel room for a pre-op exam (In the most professional essence). I CANNOT THANK THEM ENOUGH. I AM A NEW WOMAN ON THE INSIDE AND OUT!!!!

I had the pleasure of being treated by Dr. Sherman after an injury to my forearm that required surgery and stitches. Dr. Sherman and his team made everything as smooth and stress-free as possible. Dr. Sherman was professional, compassionate, and took the time to thoroughly explain the details of my surgery and recovery plan. He fit me in for surgery as quickly as possible, which I really appreciated given my situation. The entire office staff was also great. Every one was informative, supportive, and always willing to answer my questions. Each appointment felt comfortable, and I never felt rushed. Dr. Sherman’s attention to detail and care for his patients truly stands out, and I’m grateful for the level of care I received. I highly recommend Dr. Sherman to anyone in need of plastic surgery or specialized care!

I am a fifteen year patient of Dr. Sherman. Thank you to him and his staff for being there for me. Dr. Sherman’s advice was integral to my successful recovery from breast cancer. I am so happy I consulted him prior to surgery. With his guidance I chose a bilateral mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy because it afforded the best aesthetic result for my case and I would not have to do mammograms for surveillance. I was glad I did! While imagining did not detect cancer in my other breast, the lab analysis after the mastectomy showed there was in fact cancerous tissue in both breasts. He was fantastic with the reconstruction then and now when the implants needed to be replaced 10+ years later. Dr. Sherman explains all the options with the pluses and minuses based on his years of experience. His results are excellent. I was so pleased that I later asked him to fix my nose that I broke decades earlier doing gymnastics. Another great result. Thank you and I cannot rave about him and his office staff enough, including Mary and Jenny.

I feel so fortunate that I found Dr.Sherman and his amazing staff. I can’t say enough good things about Jenny, the office manager, who was always available, informative and so supportive throughout my entire journey. Mary, the office RN, is so kind and educated. She put me to ease about my Tummy Tuck procedure. I was very nervous to undergo the surgery but knowing that I picked an educated, experienced and such a friendly and welcoming surgeon made the process less scary. I am post op day 5 and I feel great! I experienced no pain, minor discomfort from the drains which were removed today, but I am still in shock that the healing process is not what I anticipated. I give thanks to Dr.Sherman hands for that!
