Dr. Zatezalo is a board certified oculofacial plastic surgeon and ophthalmologist. He is a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He specializes exclusively in plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, surrounding tissue and upper face in addition to ophthalmology. His highly specialized training in both oculofacial plastics and ophthalmology allows him to understand the importance of the functional aspect of the eyelid and upper face while performing cosmetic surgery.

As a well rounded oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Zatezalo scope of practice ranges from facial cosmetic surgery to reconstructive and revisional surgery, lacrimal or tearing disorders, orbital and ocular oncology, anophthalmic sockets and inflammatory disorders of the eyelid, eye and orbit.

When considering cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, brow and face, the surgeon must pay special attention to the health of the eye. If surgery is performed on an eyelid or brow without properly evaluating the health of the eye, severe complications may result. Dr. Zatezalo will evaluate your face and eyes on your initial visit and optimize your ocular health if needed before scheduling your surgery.

Dr. Zatezalo is also performing revisional surgery at The Zatezalo Group in North Bethesda. If after having surgery with another surgeon you are unhappy with your results, Dr. Zatezalo has many nonsurgical and surgical methods to improve your condition. A bad result from surgery can often lead to a large degree of stress which can resemble a post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Zatezalo attempts to repair unwanted outcomes without additional surgery and will only recommend surgery if necessary.

This morning I had surgery with Dr. Zatezalo for a complication from a very rare underlying skin autoimmune disease called Linear IGA Dermatosis. The disease causes my immune system to attack the layers of skin between the epidermis and dermis, resulting in skin separation and blisters all over my body. For most folks (the handful of people that have it), it is manageable with first line medication, but I have not responded well to either first, second, third or or even experimental level drugs including biologic infusions. Over the past 9 years, this disease/condition has caused many complications. The worst being that it impacts both of my eyes, wherein the eyelids have been pulled inward due to a build up of scar tissue from blistering (blistering that attacks all of my skin and some mucous membranes). This has caused severe trichiasis in both eyes, which could lead to blindness. Currently I have blurry vision in my left eye and it is healing, but I am not sure it will recover. Today, Dr. Z performed a "Wies Prodedure" to reorient my right eyelid so my eyelashes don't grow inward. It was only hours ago and it already feels better! Of course I have stitches, but considering he had to cut my eyelid completely through and reposition it, it is amazing. I am kind of in awe of the immediate results. Yes, I would definitely recommend Dr. Zatezalo!

Several months ago I made an appointment to see what options I had for reducing puffiness under my eyes. Dr. Zatezalo was great and the results are amazing! Making an appointment with Dr. Z is the best thing I've ever done for my eyes! I've struggled with dry eyes and complications stemming from treatments gone wrong performed by other "specialists" in the area and Dr. Z is an American treasure. He answered all my questions (seriously, at my first appointment I had pages of questions and he answered ALL of them), explained my situation and broke down the various treatment options. I've visited Dr. Z multiple times and I always appreciate the attention and consideration he gives me and my concerns. Dr. Z performed a tear duct procedure and it couldn't have gone better. I trust him with my eye health and will soon delve into other services his practice offers. Honestly, I wouldn't think about going anywhere else because he's THAT good. Dr. Z is refreshing, fun, good-natured and certainly an expert who is happy to help and share his knowledge. Megan is awesome, she's fielded a million questions as well and is very helpful. The office is super sleek and makes me feel fancy. Do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Zatezalo! ________________________________________________________________________ UPDATE: Since my original post, Dr. Z has performed IPL on my face and I've never felt better! It helped with dry eye and removed MAJOR sun damage. Mega alert: his sunscreen and moisturizer line HAVE CHANGED THE GAME! Goodbye adult acne, hello blemish free skin! His products are affordable and my skin has never looked better (seriously, my friends and coworkers have all noticed). Dr. Zatezalo is excellent! I had ptosis and blepharoplasty surgery. I had quite a bit of anxiety about the ptosis part of the surgery and he was very reassuring and calming. He did a fantastic job and I am thrilled with the results. I highly recommend him.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Z and Megan!!! I have had an issue with my under eyes for years! I made 3 appointment s and always cancelled! I finally pulled the trigger! Dr. Z immediately diagnosed my problem and I couldn’t be happier! Megan snd Dr.z are so warm and welcoming ... they put me at ease and that is not an easy job!!
