Profile

Dr. Eric Wang is fellowship-trained and enjoys performing the breadth of reconstructive hand surgery. The broad goal of these procedures is to restore the form and function of a patient’s hand by repairing or replacing damaged anatomy back to normal. This includes everything from straightening bent bones after fracture to tendon transfers – borrowing nearby tendons to replace the function of irreparably damaged ones. Arthroplasty replaces damaged joint surfaces to allow motion while preventing pain.

Replantation surgery and microsurgery reattaches and repairs damaged nerves and vessels, allowing for survival and use of a damaged part. These represent only a small segment of the procedures Dr. Wang offers. Hand surgeons need to be capable of operating on multiple types of tissue types on a very small scale. This needs to be combined with the intellectual ability to diagnose rare conditions and experience with healing to promote useful motion.

Dr. Wang became a plastic surgeon because of the creativity and tenacity used every day combined with the intricate anatomy, artistry, and skill that is used in the operating room. Patients undergo plastic surgery to improve their functioning, appearance, and general well-being.

Education & Training

After graduating from high school, Dr. Wang attended  Cornell University. Dr. Wang graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and a pre-med curriculum. He then attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine and graduated with my M.D.  and with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. It was during medical school that Dr. Wang first identified lifelong mentors and developed love for anatomy and for the craft of plastic surgery and hand surgery.

Dr. Wang matched out of medical school to a highly selective combined 7-year program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the UC San Francisco Medical Center. This intensive program combined training in plastic surgery with cross-training in related specialties (such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, oromaxillofacial surgery, and dermatology).  Training at a large, high-volume medical center prepared Dr. Wang for the full depth and breadth of conditions treated by plastic surgeons.  This program also solidified his desire to enter academic medicine, training the next generation of surgeons and sharing new techniques through research.

Dr. Wang chose to pursue additional training in hand surgery because of the complexity of the anatomy and clinical challenges faced daily by hand surgeons and the great impact that hand surgery can have upon the appearance and function of a patient. He completed the Baylor College of Medicine Orthopedic Hand Fellowship at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

Cancer survivors PLEASE BEWARE - I had a disfiguring outcome from the reconstruction of a ruptured implant performed by Dr. Gregory Evans. Instead of care and concern, you will be told "results are unpredictable." UCI's patient experience department will also dismiss your concerns and blame you for not returning to the doctor who harmed you. I wish I had done better research before choosing this provider. He was recommended to me by my oncologist, who was also horrified by the outcome.

I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my procedure. Dr. Evans, along with my colorectal surgeon, Dr. Carmichael, performed an incredibly intricate and delicate surgery that far exceeded my expectations. Their exceptional skill and compassion have truly changed my life, and I am deeply grateful for the care I received. Thank you Dr. Gregory Evans

I experienced nothing but first- rate, professional, caring and timely attention at UCI. Dr. Greg Evans and his very capable staff and residents took very good care of me. An oncology surgeon removed a melanoma from the side of my head and inside portion of my ear, and Dr. Evans “tag-teamed” to do a remarkable repair with skin grafts that are healing now two weeks out very well. (And I’m very grateful the margins and lymph are negative for malignant cells). I offer my unqualified and enthusiastic recommendation.

I had Melanoma reconstructive surgery done last Friday preformed by Dr Eric Wang. Regisrdless of the outcome I give Him my utmost RESPECT due to the challenge he had literally covering up a hole. He was very Comforting at my PreOp appt and said, “ I’ll take care of you Bonnie.” And that he Did ! Yesterday Jan 17th I saw Frankie and Lyndsey Bell to take the God Awful headgear off and the stitches out. Both girls are an asset to UCI Health Plastic Surgery I have nothing but Positive Good things to say about my Whole experience with UCI. Will definitely recommend them to my Newport Coast customers.

I have been a patient of Lyndsey Bell Stoffel for several years now, and cannot be more pleased! Lyndsey administers my Botox as well as other dermal fillers and chemical peels. First and foremost, she is extremely knowledgeable and is an experienced medical professional. Lyndsey approaches my treatments with an “artistic” eye, and makes sure my concerns are addressed. She is patient and compassionate. The office staff at UCI Health Plastic Surgery is efficient and courteous. I highly recommend Lyndsey and UCI Health!
