Dr. Spies is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and highly skilled in plastic surgery, with over 35 years of experience. Before performing both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery in Arizona, Dr. Spies received his medical degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed both a five year residency in general surgery (Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency) and a two year plastic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

He has received awards and recognition for his work, including the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award as well as being voted PHOENIX Magazine’s “Top Doctor” in 2017 and other previous years by a group of his peers. Not only does this renowned Arizona plastic surgeon dedicate his time to his practice, he also devotes time to the community. In the past, Dr. Spies has donated his time and skills by performing reconstructive surgery on children with birth deformities in Mexico, removing tattoos on ex-gang members in Phoenix, and teaching young men and women who are interested in becoming physicians.

Dr. Spies is also an adjunct instructor and associate professor in plastic surgery for the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Plastic surgery residents from both the Mayo Clinic plastic surgery residency in Rochester, MN and Scottsdale, AZ spend time with Dr. Spies learning plastic surgery techniques and procedures. All of these young physicians are impressed with his surgical skills, expertise, and enthusiasm to teach.

Lastly, Dr. Spies is very involved with plastic surgery at the local community and state level. He has recently been voted as Vice President of the Arizona Society of Plastic Surgeons. This position allows him to be directly involved in such areas as Truth In Advertising initiatives and educational meetings for all plastic surgeons in Arizona.
