Dr. Ira D. Papel is an internationally recognized expert in rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and ethnic rhinoplasty surgery. His top-selling textbook, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (fourth edition) is available in three languages and required reading in medical schools worldwide. It is the largest selling facial plastic surgery textbook in the world.

He received an undergraduate degree from John Hopkins University and his M.D. from Boston University of Medicine. Dr. Papel then performed his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; he did his fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Papel’s training and experience in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery ensures that his procedures combine form with function. He is continuously involved in the plastic surgery community and always on the cutting-edge of both information and innovation.

He is a former president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which offers certification to qualified facial plastic surgeons.

Currently, he is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins and contributes to the surgical training of medical students, fellows, and residents at Johns Hopkins. He has also served as a visiting professor in the US and abroad at more than 30 institutes of higher learning.

Dr. Ira Papel has frequently been cited by US News and World Report and Castle-Connolly as one of “America’s Top Doctors”. Baltimore Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine have both selected him as “Top Doctor” numerous times outright.
