Profile

Dr. Nastala attended Harvard University graduating Magna Cum Laude in biochemical sciences. He was Varsity Golf team captain and enjoyed travel and competition but developed his passion for medicine and surgery through his work in the cardiovascular laboratories at Thomas Jefferson in the summers. Attending Duke University Medical School allowed him the unique opportunity to pursue surgical research and present his work internationally and meet mentors in Plastic Surgery inspiring him to use his talents for the reconstruction of cancer patients.

During the last two decades at PRMA, Dr. Nastala has focused his efforts on developing one of the best breast reconstruction practices in the country. As patients have come from all over Texas and beyond, he has focused on delivering the best surgical care possible. He also served as the Secretary, Vice President, then President of the San Antonio International Society of Plastic Surgeons. Along with Dr. Ochoa, he has been instrumental in the research efforts of the practice as listed on his CV developing important protocols for nerve regeneration (TruSense technique), and improving clinical outcomes with ERAS – Enhanced Recovery After Surgery –, all important topics to improve our patients’ care and minimize complications and post-operative discomfort.

Literally as good as it gets. Dr. Chrysopoulo is a truly lovely human being overall. And he's everything you would want in a surgeon, because not only does he have wonderful bedside manner (and a great sense of humor), but he's a perfectionist. He has a fascinating training/residency background which I was unaware of until after my reconstructive surgery but it makes perfect sense, this perfectionism. Not only am I *incredibly* pleased with his work (and professional demeanor) but my oncologist, who is old school, cannot seem to stop himself from commenting at every follow-up appointment that "he sees many breasts day in-day out, and this is some of the best work I have ever seen. Please give him my compliments..." He has said this at minimum three times, even if he wants to stop himself from saying it, I don't believe he can. And I concur, there's no other surgeon I would want to operate on me, which is saying a lot because really, who wants to need a surgeon? Ultimately I feel my reconstruction was more or less pristine. The entire PRMA operation is geared towards the comfort and healing for survivors, with a focus on living beyond your diagnosis, beyond your reconstruction, and getting back to your whole self again. I couldn't appreciate him or them more. HIGHLY recommended.

My experience at PRMA and in particular with Dr. Chrysopoulo was outstanding. As a patient, it is important to feel that you are part of the process and that your voice is heard. Dr. C's listening skills are off the charts. He is honest, shows great integrity and work ethic and gently guides you through difficult decisions in the reconstruction process. He performed a delayed DIEP flap procedure on me and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. He doesn't "sugarcoat" the recovery process, which is difficult, but makes it all easy and understandable. He follows up and is genuinely concerned about your recovery. Kudos to his office staff and nurse, Denise. I will continue to advocate for women and recommend Dr. Chrysopoulo as the best micro-surgeon hands down, even if it means traveling to be his patient.
