I had a Long wait time in his office for my scheduled appointment. The doctor was thorough and caring. He worked my case with my doctor and got the problem under control. I feel, due to his knowledge and experience, he was the best Dr. I could have had and he is resolving my issue. I definitely would recommend Dr. J. Chao.

Dr Chao is a very skilled and knowledgeable doctor. He has a very good bedside manner as well. He replaced a Mcp joint in my right hand. I can finally sleep at night without waking up in pain.

Dr. Chao is an amazing Dr. He takes the time to explain how your healing process is going and listens to your concerns! Edna is an absolutely Gem! She’s always available if you have any questions and both Dr.Chao and Edna make it clear that they will be by your side to see you through the journey to full recovery!

Dr James Chao is an outstanding surgeon. There are commmunication problems with the staff who don't check voicemails. Excellent surgery but needs communication changes.

Long office wait times, despite scheduled appointments. Was referred to this office from Scripps ER, and I wish I had just located my own hand doctor. I had 3 total appointments, all with measurable wait times and was called back from the waiting room only to then wait in exam room for lengthy periods of time. Often when placed in exam room for hours (literally!), I wondered if I was forgotten about. Then there's the back office responsible for handling referrals for physical therapy...they dropped the ball and let 2 weeks go by and hadn't referred me to a PT office. When they finally did, they referred me to a PT that was not in network for my insurance United Healthcare. So, I just did without PT despite the instruction to have PT by the doctor. So I just did my own PT based on online research/videos. Then there's the doctor, James Chao, where on every interaction it felt rushed and there really was no personal connection or caring of how you truly feel. You are treated just as a # and it's about the $ and it's really a poor patient interaction and experience at this place. In fact, after my last miserable appointment, which was a complete waste of time, he never even inquired into how PT was going despite asking me to go schedule PT for recovery (and of course I was forced to conduct my own PT thanks to his incompetent back office/nurse assistant). Other than use his "live" X-ray machine to prove my finger fracture was actually healing, I got nothing out of this place and they wasted a lot of my time. Not sure how they stay in business, but I presume most people just take it.
