Profile

Steven Teitelbaum is an Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine, past President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, and has been in private practice in Santa Monica since 1995. He specializes exclusively in aesthetic plastic surgery. Dr. Teitelbaum received his medical education at UCLA School of Medicine and he completed his surgical residency at Harvard. This stellar academic and practical training developed him into a fine surgeon, and then the incomparable experience in the busy plastic surgery wards at LA County Hospital during his plastic surgery training at USC enabled him to hone and master his skills.

Dr. Teitelbaum went on to become board certified in both Surgery and in Plastic Surgery, and is a member of nearly every national and international plastic surgery organization.

At Dr. Teitelbaum's graduation from plastic surgery training, his program director introduced him by saying that he hoped that he would live up to his potential to be both an excellent surgeon and someone who would bring science to aesthetic surgery. Dr. Teitelbaum has since given lectures on five continents, teaches at the world's largest and most important aesthetic surgery meeting, participated in multiple research trials, written book chapters and journal articles, and teaches final-year plastic surgery residents at UCLA.

Dr. Teitelbaum is the 2016-2017 President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), the research and education arm of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) whose mission is to advance the aesthetics field for the benefit of patients, physicians and the entire field of medicine.

Dr. Teitelbaum holds leadership positions in the major plastic surgery societies including Treasurer and Legislative Committee Chair of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as Board Member of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation. He has advocated for the rights of plastic surgery patients on Capitol Hill, the state capital, and in front of the FDA.

Dr. Teitelbaum is a master at his skill. I had several consultations with other surgeons and immediately I knew he was the perfect surgeon for me. His bedside manner, knowledge and experience gave me all the confidence I needed that I was in the best hands. As a surgeon myself I was incredibly impressed by the seamless process of the entire surgery including my excellent post surgical results. I am one year out from my surgery and my results are outstanding thanks to the masterful work of Dr. Teitelbaum.

I had my breast implants removed by Dr. Teitelbaum about 2 months ago and although the surgery turned out as expected ( I only got the implants out, no other work was done) my aftercare did not go as planned. 7 days after surgery ( and 4 days after being told to told by the doctor to stop taking my antibiotics due to a “rash” ( which I directly texted him a picture of) and never put on different ones) , I contracted a cellulitis infection on my feet and chest wall. I spent 4 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics and had a 20% chance of dying according to Dr. Kang at St Johns who was my attending physician. If I had been home alone and didn’t have someone to get me to the hospital she said I most likely would have died due to delirium and not being able to know I needed help . When I showed Dr. Kang the exact picture of the “rash” I sent to Dr. Teitelbaum she said (and I quote ) “ WOW ..: that looks just like the cellulitis on you feet” . I understand infection is a risk with surgery but when I returned to the doctors office to see him not only did he refuse to take any responsibility at all , he tried multiple times to blame me for the infection and proceeded to try and makeup stories about my life to convince me it was my fault. Saying things like I walked around without shoes on or that my job was dirty and it happened at work. He never brought up the fact that I was taken off a 7 day course of antibiotics on day 3 which could of been switched after I sent the rash pictures and could of possibly protected me from any of these things he was making up about my lifestyle. And to be fair, I was REALLY nice and understanding when I first went back 3 days after leaving the hospital , most people wouldn’t have been. I really just wanted him to make things right and comfort me and assure me he would do anything to help , that we were in this together, but that’s not what happened at all. Not at all. He said “ this has NEVER happened to me in 30 years “. My best advise would be to ask your surgeon if he’s capable of making a mistake or if he’s ever made a mistake. Is he answers NO to one or both of those questions. RUN. If he says “ yes of course” , ask him how he would handle the situation if something like this happened to you post-op because it can happen and it does happen and no surgeon is right 100% of the time. Not even the best of the best like De. Teitelbaum.

Dr. Teitelbaum is first class. He is well trained, recognized by his peers and published in his field. He listens to his patients which not all doctors do. He is a true professional. I would highly recommend him.

Breast augmentation all the way back in 2004, and I could not be happier with it. Dr. Teitelbaum's work looks beautiful and natural. The whole staff was both approachable and professional. Most amazingly, I had almost no pain (still not sure how he accomplished that!) This was a totally positive experience all around.
