Alexander Jacob GougoutasDr

Dr. Gougoutas grew up in Princeton, New Jersey. With a father who is a retired organic chemist, he had early exposure to the sciences, although it was his older sister, a radiologist, who inspired his ultimate decision to pursue a career in medicine. Knowing that college would be his last chance to formally nurture his life-long love of music, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition from the University of Pennsylvania. He then remained at the University of Pennsylvania to pursue his medical degree, where a serendipitous introduction to his future mentor—a craniofacial surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia—marked the beginning of his journey to become a plastic surgeon.

Dr. Gougoutas completed a combined general surgery and plastic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He then moved across the country to pursue a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr. Gougoutas remained on the faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor for seven years.

Having honed his skills through rigorous, dual-fellowship training and a prolonged tenure at one of the country’s premiere universities, Dr. Gougoutas has firmly positioned himself at the forefront of the field. He has presented at numerous national and international plastic surgery meetings, and he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Aesthetic Society, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Washington Society of Plastic Surgeons.
