Dr. Tarak H. Patel is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with an expertise that encompasses a wide variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. He is double board certified in Plastic Surgery and General Surgery. He is committed to helping each of his patients achieve their goals while providing them a safe and comfortable experience.

Dr. Patel is originally from New York and went to undergraduate school at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was commissioned in the United States Army after graduation and went to medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He then completed a General Surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center. After completion, Dr. Patel was deployed on a Forward Surgical Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return, he decided to further his training and attend plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He continued his practice in the United States Army and was deployed on his second tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Patel served in the United States Army for 25 years and retired as a Colonel. He has won numerous awards and citations including the Combat Medical Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the Legion of Merit. He is extremely proud of his service and considers his years in the military a privilege.

Through all his years, Dr. Patel has received extensive training in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures on adult and pediatric patients. He has presented at numerous conferences and published papers in respected medical journals. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and maintains his certifications with the American Board of Surgery. He has been honored with the South Sound Region Tacoma’s “Real Men Wear Pink” award from the American Cancer Society which is a campaign to raise awareness and support for breast cancer in both 2019 and 2020. He was also voted best cosmetic surgeon in the “Best of the South Sound” for 2019, 2020, and 2022!

Dr. Patel understands there are many plastic surgery practices out there and you have choices. He advises his patients’ to select the surgeon who they feel is most competent and who they are most comfortable with. Every one of his patients has his personal cell phone number from their initial consultation so he can be available at all times. He is down to earth and loves to incorporate laughter into every appointment. He is committed to helping each and every patient achieve their goals and understands it is a privilege to be involved in one’s care. He does not take this responsibility lightly. A testament to Dr. Patel’s skills and bedside manner is a majority of his patients are family members, friends and referrals from previous patients.
