Dr. David Baker, D.O. is a fellowship-trained physician in cosmetic surgery and a board-certified general surgeon with more than 15 years of active surgical practice. He joins Swetnam Cosmetic Surgery with a depth of clinical and leadership experience rooted in a genuine commitment to patient safety, education, and individualized care.
Dr. Baker began his medical career at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. He went on to complete his general surgery internship at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri, followed by his general surgery residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He is board certified through the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, having earned certification in 2009 and again in 2019.
Since 2009, Dr. Baker has maintained an active surgical practice at Freeman Health System spanning general, bariatric, laparoscopic, robotic, and trauma surgery, giving him a well-rounded foundation in complex surgical technique and patient management. His experience across multiple surgical disciplines informs the precision, safety awareness, and clinical judgment he brings to every procedure.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Baker has held a series of leadership roles at Freeman Health System, including Medical Staff President, Medical Director of the Freeman Surgical Center, and Chief Medical Officer, a role he served in from 2021 to 2024. These positions reflect a career defined not just by technical skill but by a responsibility to the broader standards of care within his institution.
Dr. Baker is currently completing a cosmetic surgery fellowship, building on his extensive surgical background with focused training in aesthetic procedures. He is also pursuing a Master of Health Care Administration through Pittsburg State University, where he previously earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology, and where he was recognized with the Dr. Kenneth K. Bateman Outstanding Alumni Award in 2023.
Dr. Baker believes that great outcomes begin with great communication. His approach centers on listening to each patient’s goals, providing honest guidance, and creating a care plan built around safety and realistic expectations.
