Dr. James Black is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1995. He is an associate clinical professor of plastic surgery at both the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and UC Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Black combines a private surgical practice with teaching responsibilities for both UCLA and UC Irvine plastic surgery residents.
Dr. Black has been honored with the prestigious “Clinical Faculty of the Year” award by the UCLA Department of Plastic Surgery, and the “Surgical Clinical Faculty of the Year” award from the Department of Surgery at UCLA/Harbor hospital.
- Dr. Black has been selected as a “Top Doctor in America” as chosen by voting members of the American Medical Association annually since 2000 (first year of award’s inception).

Dr. Black served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance CA, and is currently Co-Chief of Plastic Surgery at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, CA.
Dr. Black is a native of Southern California, whom attended UC Irvine before graduating from Occidental College. He obtained his Medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, and completed general surgical training at UCLA and UCLA/Harbor before undertaking Plastic Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. While at Baylor, Dr. Black was awarded the nationwide “Senior Residents’ Award for Aesthetic Surgery” at the 33RD annual Plastic Surgery Senior Residents’ Conference at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Black continued with advanced fellowship training in microsurgery, and oncologic plastic surgery at the world renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas before returning to Southern California to perform both Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.
