Dr. Melanie Petro is quadruple board-certified and fellowship trained, which means she has several more years of surgical training and experience than most facial plastic surgeons. Her unique combination of Facial Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Cosmetic Surgery training allows her to provide unrivaled expertise in facial plastic and cosmetic surgery. She is also a member of numerous prestigious surgical societies, most of which require nomination and thorough evaluation for membership.

She first became interested in a surgical career while operating beside her father. She was most interested in the finest details of the operation. “Becoming a surgeon was the easiest decision of my life; I could not imagine myself doing anything else,” she recalls. Dr. Petro received her medical degree from The University of Mississippi, where she won awards for her surgical excellence. Dr. Petro completed her residency in head and neck/otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She was then accepted into the prestigious Cosmetic Surgery fellowship at the McCollough Plastic Surgery Clinic. Following her Fellowship, Dr. Petro was invited to continue her association with the McCollough Plastic Surgery Clinic, where she performed cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. In addition, she served as the Medical Director of the MedSpa where she provided non-surgical options for rejuvenation. She spent an exceptional amount of time obtaining further training in advanced injectable and laser techniques to provide state-of-the-art care to her patients whose concerns were best met through non-surgical options.

In an industry in which board certification in plastic surgery is a minimum, Dr. Petro separates herself with quadruple-board certification in facial plastic surgery, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, cosmetic surgery and vein and venous medicine.  This is a very rare combination reflecting achievement in the rigorous examination process. Dr. Petro is the only such surgeon in the area and one of only a handful in the country with this level of certification. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
