Dr. Alspaugh graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Chemistry from Wake Forest University. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ohio State University in 1982 and again graduated cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor fraternity as a junior medical student.

Dr. Alspaugh then completed a five year General Surgery residency, 1982-1987, where he culminated as Chief Resident at the Medical College of Virginia. The following two years, as a Plastic and Reconstructive Resident at the Medical College of Virginia, he was awarded the Theogaraj Academic Award. He completed his medical training with a Microsurgery Fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute, Louisville, KY in 1990.

I had surgery with Dr. Alspaugh 6 days ago! I got a tummy tuck, with muscle repair, breast reduction and lift and lipo. When I tell you I was nervous (at first) and did SO much research, that would be an understatement. Let me also make you aware this was my first surgery ever and I’ve always been scared. However, from the time I went to my consultation until after my surgery and still today, Dr. Alspaugh and his team have been nothing short of amazing. They are patient, kind, responsive, and timely. I have felt so comfortable since day one. Day of surgery I was not even a tiny bit nervous. Although it’s only been 6 days I already love my results. So if you’re looking for “magic hands” with a wonderful team, LOOK NO MORE!!!

I absolutely love Dr Alspaugh and his team of wonderful nurses . Had an under eye procedure done almost two weeks ago and he was very informative, professional and very patient with me answering questions as I was worried about going into surgery. Not only called me himself the day after but also called when I had a small issue after hours within minutes and had me come straight in the next morning to just make sure I was ok . I highly recommend him if you’re looking for a surgical team that treats you like a part of the family

Dr. Alspaugh and the entire team at AIPS have been amazing since day 1! I can’t recommend him (and them) enough. He did my breast reduction this past Wednesday, and was extremely thorough with explaining his techniques and what I should expect moving forward. Any questions or concerns that I had were swiftly addressed and I’ve felt heard throughout the entire process. Incredibly professional bedside manner, but also casual enough to make me not feel super anxious like I had been! Everyone I’ve told that I’m going to him has had nothing but great things to say and assured me that i’d be taken care of. They were right. I am a few days post op and had a slight concern about my chest, and I was able to hear back from him so quickly, even though it’s Sunday. I’m excited to see how my body looks in the next few months while I continue healing, but from what I’ve seen already, I look amazing!!! Thanks, Dr. Alspaugh 😄

Staff is nice and waiting area is very pleasant. Dr.Alspaugh however is very belittling and seemed more interested in talking about insurance than any actual procedural/health concerns. Had an extremely pretentious way of going about explanation and was horrible in his examination (left literal bruises on the skin and was only doing a consult, not a procedure). Not very comforting and was quite dismissive, almost brushing off important non-insurance questions. Can't speak for any of his actual services as we decided against using his services due to how offensive and unprofessional he was. Only good part of it was the support staff which was polite, but didn't acknowledge how awful he was. Edit: Was not a patient, spouse of a patient

This is my third time having my breast done because the first time they made them way too big so when they fix them the second time, they really just looked awful I didn’t even know that it was possible to fix him once again. I then chose Dr. alsbaugh and I am day two after surgery. He is brilliant and quite an artist. It’s only day two and I am so thrilled with the results. I would recommend him to anybody even people that are thinking of flying out of town just to see an excellent doctor
