Dr. Rutner received his undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University in 1992. After that, he spent two years at Columbia University performing molecular biology research. In 1994 he began UMDNJ Dental School graduating in 1998 with the highest honors, OKU. He began his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at UMDNJ in 1998, which also entailed the completion of medical school and the receipt of an MD in 2001. Since then his kids affectionately have been known to call him “doctor, doctor.”

He then went on to complete his training at UMDNJ as chief resident in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2004. Lastly in 2006 he received his board certification by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and was recertified in 2016.

Dr. Rutner joined the existing practice of Dr. Joseph DeMaio in 2004 and was instrumental in expanding the scope of the 30+ year practice to include orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, CBCT guided implant placement, complex jaw bone grafting and reconstruction, as well as facial cosmetic surgery.  Upon Dr. DeMaio’s retirement in 2014, Dr. Rutner re-branded the name of the practice as Center For Oral & Facial Surgery.  The office then moved down the block in 2017 to a brand new state of the art facility.

Dr. Rutner has a particular interest in facial cosmetic/plastic surgery. Utilizing his medical degree and training with well known plastic surgeons, Dr. Rutner can also perform in-office facial cosmetic surgery including BOTOX® Cosmetic and restylane/juvaderm injections, chemical peels, facial/chin liposuction, scar revisions, facial and chin implants, facial mole removal, and blepharoplasty (eyelid cosmetic surgery). These procedures offer patients the ability to combine aesthetic dentistry with cosmetic surgery.
