Dr. Helm has extensive experience in reconstructive plastic surgery including breast reconstruction, skin cancer reconstruction and traumatic wound reconstruction. As the chief of plastic surgery at South Shore Hospital he cares for both adult and pediatric patient with a broad range of reconstructive and cosmetic needs. Dr. Helm completed the Harvard Combined Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Massachusetts.

In addition to his experience in reconstructive plastic surgery, Dr. Helm is extensively trained in cosmetic surgery and can provide a range of services that deliver the most aesthetically pleasing results. After completing plastic surgery training Dr. Helm further expanded his expertise with an orthopedic hand fellowship. He provides acute care for hand trauma, infections as well as offers treatment for chronic and degenerative conditions. His training in both plastic surgery as well as hand surgery affords him specific expertise in the complexity of the hand.

When not in surgery or consulting with patients, Dr. Helm tries to find time to sail in the summer and ski in the winter with his wife and two young children.

Dr. Helm is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Advanced Qualification in Hand Surgery. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH)

I got the PRP treatment with Sydney and could not have had a better first experience! Syd was personable, informative, and walked me through the whole process. I never felt pressured to add treatments to the consultation. Sydney is clearly educated in her craft and knows how to make her patients feel safe and heard. From the first consultation to follow-up Dr. Helm and his team is outstanding. This was my second experience with Dr. Helm and I highly recommend this practitioner and practice. I did not have this experience during other consults and opinions. Deciding to undergo care through Dr. Helm was an easy decision. Post cancer treatment I was given Dr. Helm's name by my radiologist. While deciding the course of reconstruction treatment was a difficult decision, Dr. Helm took the time to fully explain my options and understand the potential outcomes associated with each one. He and his staff were reassuring, caring, and compassionate at each stage of the plan. I did not feel pressured to any course of action but encouraged to consider the best outcomes. I was supported through each stage of this journey and the outcome is better than I could have imagined at the start.
